Yesterday was an angry day for me. I felt compelled to write about my opinion, which as far as I am concerned should trump the opinion of the Supreme Court since they obviously got it wrong. First of all, since when is a corporation an individual? Looked all over the web for some article or news report that I must have missed, in which it specifically states that FOR PROFIT Corporations are individuals and are therefore entitled to particular religious freedoms that they can then force on all their employees but alas, I could not find it. But as I researched, I found myself less angry and getting more excited. Because I definitely was not the only one who was angry. Men, women, young, old, even dissenting supreme court justices were angry. There were a few Christians whom are members of my family and friends that were celebrating, but not as many as I am sure Hobby Lobby was hoping. I am not angry at my Christian friends. They are entitled to their beliefs. However, I don't expect them to start using birth control because I think they should. And I would expect them to not expect me not to. Now, mind you, I am 50 years old and no longer of child bearing age, have never worked for Hobby Lobby and never will, but this ruling scares me. It's a big step backwards in every individuals rights.
I decided that today I would speak through other's words, as they were inspiring and moved me, and I hope many others, to action. We need to stand up and demand OUR rights back. The right to practice OUR own beliefs!
"Yea our supreme judges rule that you can invoke religion over the law of the land. Sounds like our sworn enemies Iran and the Taliban doesn't it. Separation of church and state is basic and simple and clearly spelled out in our laws, religious discrimination is why the US was started. But apparently these fake Christian pushing ideologues see none of that." Jeff G.
"I'm a woman."
"They're" a machine."
"Nothing can stop an army of vaginas. Nothing."Juliet L.
"Supreme Courts decision was a big blow . . .a big set back to women's rights . . .their decisions are pretty finite . . .I think it's time we open our eyes . . .the whole world is changing rapidly and women's right are being push aside more and more . . .quietly . . .a little at a time . . .
we woman in the United States are more blessed and we take it for granted . . .we're comfortable and we get complacent . . .I like to say I'm the old going out . . .but I think the young people . . .I have a granddaughter . . .need to wake up . . .understand the history . . .and maybe it's my job to start opening my mouth . . .not be so quiet . . .and educate ." Karen C.
"Oh, and Hobby Lobby? Mind explaining to those of us with functioning brain cells why vasectomies and Viagra are covered for your dude employees, and why they don't fall into the "no no" categories in your Good Book? After all, neither are exactly stuff of creationism . . . ." Julie D.
"the pro-choice movement gets a lot of gruff because it's about abortion . . .but preventive alternatives such as birth control too are hooked into the pro-choice movement . . .that hurts it . . .because preventative is not taking life . . .it's not creating it . . .and that should be a choice of no controversy." Karen C.
"Religious organizations exist to foster the interests of persons subscribing to the same religious faith. Not so of for-profit corporations. … The distinction between a community made up of believers in the same religion and one embracing persons of diverse beliefs, clear as it is, constantly escapes the Court’s attention. One can only wonder why the Court shuts this key difference from sight." Ruth G.
"Majority of their CRAP comes from China. Oh and isnt it China that has FORCED ABORTIONS? again... just sayin."
"No, you can't deny women their basic rights and pretend it's about your 'religious freedom'. If you don't like birth control, don't use it. Religious freedom does not mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs." Barack O.
Just to be fair, I thought I should include the link to the Hobby lobby page dedicated to this. 16 out of 20 they are paying for. They religiously object, but that's not what religious freedom is. They seem so sincere, but I can't help it, I keep going back to their investments. They don't object to forced abortions, really? No human rights? Inhumane work conditions?
Definition of FREEDOM: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action. The Supreme Court should have ruled in favor of our right to FREEDOM OF CHOICE!
Religious Freedom does not give someone else the right to make you follow their beliefs. It allows you to practice YOUR OWN RELIGION without fear of persecution. I am frightened by what may come next. Employees can't eat pork because it is against our religion, women must be covered from head to toe because it is against our religion, you can be stoned to death because you married into a different religion and that is against our religion? Wake up and start a revolution before it becomes a reality!
